Verksamhet
Föreningens fokus skall ligga på att skapa godsflöden för ekonomiskt/marknadsmässigt bärkraftig färjeförbindelse till i första hand Ventspils, Lettland över Oskarshamns hamn. I detta ingår att marknadsföra CARGOTO stråket mot varuägare och operatörer på väg/järnväg i Sverige som har verksamhet inriktad på handel med Östeuropa och fjärran Östern. I första hand gäller det transportköpare och operatörer i Södra Sverige. Föreningen skall också aktivt verka för att transporter till/från Östeuropa med ursprung eller destination i andra delar av Skandinavien och Storbritannien skall värdera möjligheten av rationella transportlösningar med utnyttjande av CARGOTO stråket.
Föreningen skall i sin verksamhet ge högsta prioritet åt att upprätthålla och utveckla en konstruktiv dialog med i Östersjön väl etablerade rederier. Inledningsvis skall fokus ligga på att de hittillsvarande kontakterna med Finnlines och Scandlines bibehålls i syfte att skapa förutsättningar för att endera av de rederierna startar trafik. Föreningen skall då också stödja och aktivt bistå i arbete med att utveckla projektkoncept och formella ansökningar om EU medel inom ramen för Kommissionens TENT program. I första hand gällande medel avsatta för s.k. Marco Polo projekt resp. Motorways of the Sea projekt.
Föreningens verksamhet baseras på medlemskap för hamnar, intermodala terminaler och transportoperatörer på väg/järnväg och i sjöfart med intresse av att vidareutveckla integrerade lösningar mellan de olika transportslagen i CARGOTO stråket samt för tillverkande företag, regionförbund, kommuner och statliga myndigheter med intresse av stråkets utveckling.
Baserat på föreningens arbete med att utveckla godsflöden i CARGOTO stråket skall föreningen bedriva ett aktivt lobbyarbete vis a vis departement, statliga myndigheter och regioner till förmån för en förstärkt transportinfrastruktur i stråkets svenska del speciellt m a p väg- och järnvägsförbindelser Nässjö- Oskarshamn. Föreningen skall också i övrigt stödja initiativ för förstärkt infrastruktur kopplad till Oskarshamns hamn och de terminaler/logistkcentra som ingår i CARGOTO samarbetet.
Föreningen bör i sin verksamhet eftersträva rollen som rådgivare/diskussionspartner till Regionförbunden i Kalmar och Jönköpings län liksom berörda kommuner, i frågor som rör transportinfrastruktur.

The objective of the CARGOTO Association
The objective of the CARGOTO Association is to pursue the issue of establishing a coherent freight transport connection Gothenbourg/jönköping/Oskarshamn/Ventspils/Moscow and further East. The aim of the activities of the Association will be the establishment of a regular ferry connection between Ventspils and Oskarshamn based on a stable cargo flow - as soon as possible. This means that a main activity of the Association will now be to develop cargo flows ready for transport in the corridor as a whole as well as in its different part alignments.
In order to fulfil this objective and attain the goal /-/ the association will have to focus on the development of a close dialogue with potential client operators and cargo owners. The first steps is taken in the frame of the CARGOTO project but additional efforts will be taken as a priority task of the new CARGOTO Association. The Association will accordingly have to rely heavily on engaged members /-/ ports as well as port terminals and inland dry ports and their business contacts and activities. The main CARGOTO Corridor will of course be a focus area for these contacts with the market actors. But /-/ attention has also to be given to potential cargo flows with origin and destination in its hinterland /-/ in Scandinavia as well as in the Baltic States and Russia. That is why it will be of outmost importance to include as core members /-/ and associate interested parties /-/ operators, terminals but also strategic manufacturing companies which will get added values as users of the corridor even if their location is outside the core corridor area.
The core members will be asked to contribute with a small fee /-/ to cover certain joint activities which will be decided by the board of member organisations. But the main contribution to the effectiveness of the Association will be the core members work in line with the aim and objective of the Association. The board will be composed by core members from Scandinavia, Latvia and if possible Russia/China - acting on the market and directly involved in cargo flow operations on land and sea. Other members could be strategic partners influencing the transport market regulation and planning in these countries."
